The Story of Malkovich

Malkovich Band Photo

(2000-2008)

Malkovich was a hardcore punk band that existed from 2000 to 2008, leaving an indelible mark on the European punk scene. Named after the film "Being John Malkovich," the band carved out a unique sound that blended chaotic hardcore energy with experimental elements and unexpected musical twists.

Over their 8-year existence, Malkovich played 341 shows across 19 countries, sharing stages with iconic acts and building a devoted following throughout Europe and beyond. Their relentless touring schedule took them from intimate squat venues to major festivals like Lowlands, where they won the prestigious Essent Award in 2007.

The band released two critically acclaimed albums: "A Criminal Record" (2004) via Reflections Records and "Kings n' Bosses" (2007) via Go Kart Records, along with several EPs and splits. Their music was characterized by unpredictable song structures, politically charged lyrics, and an uncompromising DIY ethic.

Malkovich's final show took place on October 3, 2008 at Akhnaton in Amsterdam - a sold-out farewell that marked the end of an era. Though the band is no longer active, their influence continues to resonate in the Dutch and European hardcore scenes.
